This 2003 Grand Cru has a wonderfully complex, austere nose of coffee, smoke, oak and a little graphite. Nice blackcurrant fruit on initial entry with some chocolate. Smooth mouthfeel with drying tannins on the finish.

Founder Jean-Philippe Janoueix comes from the revered Bordeaux winemaking dynasty. The family business was created in 1898 by Joseph Janoueix, with Jean-Philippe Janoueix establishing his own branch of the business in 1994. Today, he has accumulated a wine portfolio including Château Haut-Pontet, Château La Confession and Château Cap Saint-George (all in Saint-Émilion), Château Croix-Mouton (Bordeaux Supérieur), as well as Château La Croix Saint-Georges and Château Sacre Coeur (Pomerol).
