Is your wine 'corked'?
Very occasionally your wine may be 'corked'. A corked wine does not mean a wine that has tiny particles of cork floating around in the glass. Simply put, a 'corked' wine is a wine that has had its aroma and flavour compromised by 'cork taint' - a harmless but unwanted chemical compound. Cork taint is not the taste of cork. Rather, it is caused by the presence of a chemical compound called TCA (2,4,6 – trichloroanisole).
While unpleasant to taste, cork taint is not in any way harmful. Corked wines taste and smell musty or mouldy, not dissimilar to damp, soggy, wet or rotten cardboard. A corked wine can only be detected by smell and taste, and it's appearance will not change. If you suspect that any wine purchased from Baggot Street Wines is 'corked', do not hesitate in contacting us and we will replace any affected bottle(s).
It is illegal to sell or supply alcohol to persons under 18 years of age in Ireland. Purchases can only be made by persons aged 18 or over and by placing your order with Baggot Street Wines, you are confirming that you are above this legal age. If, at any point in the transaction, we are doubtful that you are over 18, we may ask for proof of age in the form of a valid Driver's License, Garda Age Card or Passport. The recipient of the goods must also be a minimum of 18 years old. If our drivers should ask for proof of age, and it cannot be provided, the goods will be retained until they can be received by someone aged 18 years or over. Our drivers reserve the right to ask for valid proof of age, so please don't be offended should this happen.
