Bordeaux is a name synonymous with fine wines and helps form the bedrock of the market across the globe. Located in the south west of France the history of the region dates back to the first century when viticulture was introduced by the romans. In the 12th century the wines of the region started to be exported to England and its popularity has soared ever since.

The region is dissected by the Gironde river which divides bordeaux into the left and right bank. Wines from the left bank tend to be predominantly made from Cabernet Sauvignon with lesser amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc blended in. Left bank wines have a tendency to be higher in tannin than those from the right bank and popular sub regions include Margaux, Saint Julien, Pailliac and Saint Estephe. Right bank Bordeaux on the other hand are usually made up of a higher proportion of merlot and are often less tannic and more fruit forward. The two main sub regions on the right bank include Saint Emilion and Pomerol.

Here in Baggot street wines we have a wide selection of different Bordeaux wines to suit every budget. From entry level Bordeaux Superiors to a sizeable selection of Grand Cru Classe and if you really want to push the boat out we even have some amazing vintages of first growths such as 2016 Chateau Margaux, 2004 Chateau Haut Brion, 2015 Mouton Rothschild and 2017 Lafite Rothschild. We also have a number of white Bordeaux which is less well known but equally as delicious, made from a blend of semillon and sauvignon blanc; it comes in both fresher and more textured styles.
