  • Michel Bouzereau Meursault 2015 "Les Grand Charrons"
    Burgundy, France
    Chardonnay

Based in Meursault, 7 generations have run the 10.5 hectares of Domaine Michel Bouzereau and the most recent in line is Jean Baptiste. They believe that the work for a great wine is mainly in the vineyard : soil cultivation, small in size, severe de-budding and use of the most natural products. In fact they go so far as working to the lunar cycle – biodynamics – whilst bottling between November and March. Adapting their viticulture techniques and careful observation of each individual parcel leads to hand harvested healthy fruit that gives precise, balanced wines.

Rich and voluptuous Meursault, exotic with the bouquet of toasted hazelnuts, orange blossom and butterscotch yet it is elegant and deeply complex. There is a captivating palate of white fruits with sublime honeyed richness with a hint of toasted oak.

  • Gerard Duplessis Chablis Grand Cru 2015 Les Clos
    Burgundy, France
    Chardonnay
"The 2015 Chablis Grand Cru les Clos comes from a single 0.30 hectare parcel located in the center of the slope. The vines were planted in 1964 and 1965. It offers quite a rich bouquet with scents of dried honey, acacia, linseed and a touch of pressed white flowers, all well defined. The palate is crisp and taut on the entry with a fine bead of acidity, waxy in texture with a slightly resinous last third that seems to be closing down. Cellar this away for two to four years to get the most from this grand cru. Drink: 2020-2035"

  • Chateau Lynch Bages, Pauillac 2003
    Bordeaux, France
Cabernet Sauvignon 83%, Merlot 11%, Cabernet Franc 6%

Ch. Lynch Bages, a Cinquième Cru Classé, is one of the best-known Médoc estates and has always had a particularly strong following on this side of the English Channel. The wine can be surprisingly soft and approachable when young; however, when fully mature, it develops a succulent richness and a heavenly bouquet of minty blackcurrants and cigar boxes. As Oz Clarke says, “Lynch Bages is impressive at five years, beautiful at 10 years and irresistible at 20.”

The 2003 Lynch Bages has re-emphasised just how good the Left Bank wines are. Huge wafts of muscular, minty, cassis-laden Cabernet Sauvignon on the nose introduce a powerful structured palate with savoury hints of liquorice. It displays even more elegance than other vintages and looks likely to prove absolutely stunning with a bit of patience. Cellar Potential 2012-2030

  • Matassa Coume de l'Olla Blanc
    Staff Favourite
    South-West France, France
    Grenache Gris, Maccabeu, Muscat
Beautiful aromatic nose with pear, apple and a hint of honeycomb. Shows great freshness on the palate together with its unmistakable minerality. Complex, with ripe fruit. A skin contact white you won't forget. "Although still relatively young, Domaine Matassa is already well-established with listings in some of the best restaurants in the world. Winemaker Tom Lubbe espouses a natural approach and has mostly done away with the use of sulphur. Indigenous yeasts give the whites a somewhat funky character but this is tempered by great freshness and texture. Thanks to schist and slate soils, a mineral note runs through the wines." La Rousse.

  • Yves Cuilleron Les Pierres Seches Saint-Joseph 2016
    Côtes du Rhône, France
    Syrah
"Saint-Joseph Pierres Sèches comes from different Syrah vineyards grown on shallow, sandy, granitic soils on the hillsides of Chavanay. “Les Pierres Sèches” refers to the dry stone walls used to strengthen the vine terracing. Again, the grapes are hand-picked; they are then sorted, crushed and partially destemmed in the cellar. Fermented, using native yeasts, in open, temperature-controlled vats for about 3 weeks, with regular cap-punching and pumping-over. Malolactic-fermented in barriques, the wine will spent 18 months in barrels before bottling. Deep ruby red colour. Vibrant strawberry and mineral scents are deepened by singed earth and tobacco, with a floral quality adding energy. Sharply focused red berry flavours are pleasingly bitter and precise. Turns spicier on the long, clinging finish. This conveys very good energy." Le Caveau.

  • Château Miraval Rosé 2018
    South of France, France
    Cinsault Grenache Rolle Syrah
From Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's estate in Provence, this rosé is genuinely one of our all time favourites. Made from Cinsault, Grenache, Rolle and Syrah grapes, Miraval shows a beautiful light pink colour. Great freshness, with delicate strawberry flavours and some citrus fruit. 2018 was a rich vintage which gave round fruit and complexity to the wine. "Celebrity rosés are almost as prevalent as pink wine itself. Perhaps the first, and certainly the most famous, is Miraval, from Provence, the brand of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Produced in partnership with the Perrin family of Chateauneuf-du-Pape fame, the wine has been a market sensation since its introduction with the 2012 vintage. Despite their very public split, Brangelina remain involved with the brand, which now includes a second rosé called Studio and two white wines." The Guardian
