  • Niepoort Ruby Dum Port Portugal
    Douro Valley, Portugal
    Touriga Nacional,Touriga Franca,Tinto Cão,Tinta Francisca,Tinta Amarela,Sousão,Tinta Roriz
Winemaking: Ruby Dum and Tawny Dee. Identical siblings born in DOURO. With time, Ruby Dum retains its youthful, strong character, dominated by red cherries and plums with great freshness from ageing in large wooden vats in the cool cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia. With time, Tawny Dee acquires great wisdom and subtleness through ageing in small old oak casks exhibiting discrete characters of dried stone fruits. Vinification: The wine originates from low yielding old vineyards in the Cima Corgo Region of the Douro Valley. The grapes are predominantly trodden in Lagares, prior to ageing in large wooden vats at our lodges in Gaia and bottled with an average age of 3 years. Tasting Notes: Dark red in colour with a fresh vibrant aroma of dark fruits which follows through on the palate along with an almost mineral character, a youthful wine with good extract and great balance, offering superb "drinkability". Ready to drink now after a meal on its own or with soft cheeses.

  • 2000 Niepoort Vintage Port Portugal
    Douro Valley, Portugal
    Touriga Nacional,Touriga Franca,Tinto Cão,Tinta Francisca,Tinta Amarela,Sousão,Tinta Roriz
Winemaking: Another classic Niepoort vintage: combining balance with superb concentration, and at the same time very fine and delicate. The wine also has a splendid rustic character giving it a wonderful individuality. Vinification: It was created from low-yielding old vines in the Cima Corgo region of the Douro valley. The grapes were trodden in lagares and later the Port was matured in large wooden Vats and also in barrels at our Lodges in Gaia. The Niepoort Late Bottled Vintages are traditionally bottled 4 years after the harvest. "I try to bottle this Port as soon as possible, so the freshness and the fruit of the vintage are revealed the moment you taste it", says Dirk. Tasting Notes: Concentrated aromas of ripe dark fruits, damsons and hints of black pepper. Intense on the palate and full bodied with a long rich after-taste. It can be enjoyed now, but will become more complex with further cellaring until 2015. To fully benefit from its qualities we recommend it be decanted before serving. Serve with soft cheeses, mild blue cheese, dark chocolate desserts or a Pepper Steak!
