  • Château Langoa Barton, Saint-Julien 2009
    Bordeaux, France
77.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 7.5% Cabernet Franc
A blend of 77.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 7.5% Cabernet Franc. This has a ripe blackberry, violet tinged nose that is perhaps lacking the clarity and vigour that it often shows at this stage. A touch of seashells become apparent in the glass. The palate is full-bodied, quite sinewy comparative to other Saint Juliens with good concentration and purity of fruit with no signs of under-ripeness. The Langoa 2009 has a persistent finish with good depth and focus with blackberry and cedar to the fore. Very fine, as usual.

  • Flor de Pingus 2017 Ribera del Duero
    Ribera del Duero, Spain
    Tempranillo

Dominio de Pingus is a Spanish winery located in Quintanilla de Onésimo with vineyards in the La Horra area of the Ribera del Duero region. It was established in 1995 by Danish oenologist Peter Sisseck who believes in a system of never fertilising or treating the vineyard with pesticides.

“Explosively perfumed aromas of fresh boysenberry, floral oils and incense, with suave vanilla and woodsmoke nuances building in the glass. Sweet and plush on the palate, offering intense, smooth dark fruit liqueur and spicecake flavors. Really stains the palate, finishing with superb thrust and clarity; velvety tannins add gentle grip.”- Josh Raynolds

  • Ornellaia, Bolgheri DOC Superiore 2017
    Tuscany, Italy
51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot
56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot,10% Petit Verdot, 9% Cabernet France The clusters were hand-picked into 15 kg boxes and then selected by hand on a double sorting table, before and after destemming, and finally softly crushed. In 2016, optical sorting has been introduced in addition to manual selection, in order to further increase the quality of selection. Each grape variety and single vineyard block was vinified separately. Fermentation took place in stainless steel and concrete tanks at temperatures below 25°C for a week, followed by maceration for about 10-15 days, for a total time in the vat of about three weeks. The malolactic fermentation took place mainly in oak barrels, 70% new and 30% once-used. The wine then remained in barriques, in Ornellaia’s temperature-controlled cellars for about 18 months. After the first 12 months of maturation, the wine was assembled and then returned to the barriques for an additional 6 months. After bottling, the wine aged a further 12 months prior to release. “Ornellaia 2017 masterfully interprets what was a particularly warm and sunny year. The intense and dark colour heralds a wine of beautiful concentration; the nose, rich and complex, releases scents of ripe red fruits, accompanied by notes of sweet tobacco and vanilla. The taste reveals an Ornellaia of great balance, a combination of firmness and pleasant freshness.” Olga Fusari – Winemaker – July 2019 Cellar Potential 2020-2040

  • 2017 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia Bolgheri Tuscany
    Tuscany, Italy
85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc
In 2017 Bolgheri was blessed by the third exceptional vintage on the trot, after the superb 2015-16. People are struggling to remember two such excellent consecutive vintages and it is fair to say that the release of the wines has been much anticipated. The critics have been lavish with their praise. 93/100 Wine Advocate Sassicaia is today one of the most sought after fine wines in the world. This is larely because of the vision, energy and drive o proprietor Mario Incisa della Rocchetta. The name Sassicaia means place of many stones and the gravelly soil has been compared to those found in the Medoc. "Mid-deep ruby-garnet. A notable nose ragrance with tobacco scent lifts out of the glass. Acore or ripe, sweet cassis fruit is wrapped in subtle clove oak spice, some earthy tones and cigar box. Needs only a little coaxing from the glass, whish is surprising, given its youth. Focussed, precise and elegant cassis on the palate with crushed rock and tobacco. Very fine, fairly firm tannins, with a line of acidity helping to give structure. Very long, delicate, scented finish." Tim Jackson, MW, jancisrobinson.com

  • Chateau Lynch Bages, Pauillac 2003
    Bordeaux, France
Cabernet Sauvignon 83%, Merlot 11%, Cabernet Franc 6%

Ch. Lynch Bages, a Cinquième Cru Classé, is one of the best-known Médoc estates and has always had a particularly strong following on this side of the English Channel. The wine can be surprisingly soft and approachable when young; however, when fully mature, it develops a succulent richness and a heavenly bouquet of minty blackcurrants and cigar boxes. As Oz Clarke says, “Lynch Bages is impressive at five years, beautiful at 10 years and irresistible at 20.”

The 2003 Lynch Bages has re-emphasised just how good the Left Bank wines are. Huge wafts of muscular, minty, cassis-laden Cabernet Sauvignon on the nose introduce a powerful structured palate with savoury hints of liquorice. It displays even more elegance than other vintages and looks likely to prove absolutely stunning with a bit of patience. Cellar Potential 2012-2030

Grapes Tempranillo. Region: Toro, Castilla y Leon, Spain. Producer Many consider Vega Sicilia to be one of Spain’s ‘First Growths;’ and responsible for the illustrious reputation of the Ribera Del Duero. Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec) and planted them, together with Spain's signature grape Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) in Ribera del Duero. Tasting Notes It has aromas of violets and delicate cedar, with a fresh, balanced, rounded palate displaying rich, dense notes of redcurrant and damson that run smoothly over the tongue. There's an edge of acidity and a finishing boom of warmth. Tasting Notes “This wine is clean, modern and balanced, with integrated oak and the classical berry flavors with a spicy twist. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with some grainy tannin and enough elegance to counterbalance the natural power. • 2013 Chateau Calon-Segur, Saint-Estephe
    Bordeaux, France
92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot
A wonderful expression of Cabernet Sauvignon (92%), cassis, slightly smoky, all elegance from St-Estèphe, a finely polished wine. "This is an impressive wine that transcends the problems of the vintage. It has rich fruit that is sustained by the tannic structure that rests on a bed of fresh blackberry fruits cut with fresh acidity. The wine will certainly age well. Don't think about drinking it before 2024." - ROGER VOSS "The 2013 Calon Segur is a Saint Estephe that should not be ignored. It has developed an attractive bouquet with blackberry, graphite, and a hint of vanilla in the background. No, it is not an intense bouquet, yet winemaker Vincent Millet has conjured aromatics that frankly shade many other Left Bank properties this year. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and crisp acidity. There is tangible energy here with a cohesive and silky-textured finish. What is lacks in-depth it compensates with a sense of panache. It will be earlier drinking than other vintages, but the class comes through. Bravo to Vincent and his team for making the best wine they possibly could in this challenging vintage. Drink Date: 2018-2032" - Wine Advocate

    Douro Valley, Portugal
    Touriga Nacional,Touriga Franca,Tinto Cão,Tinta Francisca,Tinta Amarela,Sousão,Tinta Roriz
Winemaking: Another classic Niepoort vintage: combining balance with superb concentration, and at the same time very fine and delicate. The wine also has a splendid rustic character giving it a wonderful individuality. Vinification: It was created from low-yielding old vines in the Cima Corgo region of the Douro valley. The grapes were trodden in lagares and later the Port was matured in large wooden Vats and also in barrels at our Lodges in Gaia. The Niepoort Late Bottled Vintages are traditionally bottled 4 years after the harvest. "I try to bottle this Port as soon as possible, so the freshness and the fruit of the vintage are revealed the moment you taste it", says Dirk. Tasting Notes: Concentrated aromas of ripe dark fruits, damsons and hints of black pepper. Intense on the palate and full bodied with a long rich after-taste. It can be enjoyed now, but will become more complex with further cellaring until 2015. To fully benefit from its qualities we recommend it be decanted before serving. Serve with soft cheeses, mild blue cheese, dark chocolate desserts or a Pepper Steak!
