    Rhône, France
    Syrah
Grapes 100% Syrah. Crozes-Hermitage Appellation. Biodynamic and Organic wine. Tasting notes “2016 Crozes-Hermitage Les Varonniers is a solid wine. It starts off with forwarding aromas blackberry pie and pastry crust, yet it delivers a structured, slightly restrained experience on the palate. It's not overly tannic, just reined in by crushed stone notes on the lingering finish”. • Domaine des Bosquets, Gigondas, Southern Rhône
    Rhône, France
    75% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 3 % Mourvèdre and 2% Cinsault.
"Home to the first Gigondas vines in 1376, Domaine des Bosquets is today run by brothers Laurent and Julien Bréchet with the same commitment to quality as at Château de Vaudieu. The 26 hectares of vines are up to 75 years old and lie at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail. Julien has identified three distinct soil types at different altitudes within his vineyards: marl at 250-300 metres above sea level; sandy clay at 200-220 metres; and blue clay at 170 metres. These offer the potential for varying ripeness levels and fruit characters in the wine. All the vines are cordon-trained for the optimum exposure and ventilation of the grapes, and the fruit is hand-harvested and goes through rigorous selection. The Gigondas is a blend of different parcels and is dominated by 75% Grenache, with 20% Syrah, 3 % Mourvèdre and 2% Cinsault. It has a lift and balance, as well as a powerful fruit character. The wine is aged for 18 months in total. For 12 months it ages separately: the Syrah is aged in 228-litre oak barrels, the Grenache is aged in 600-litre barrels and the rest is aged in concrete tanks. All three are then blended and bottled six months later. The 2011 Gigondas 'Le Lieu Dit' is from a 1.3-hectare parcel at 300 metres altitude giving the wine freshness as well as ripeness. It is made of 95% Grenache and 5% Syrah and is matured for 18 months, 12 months of which was spent in French oak barrels. A complex nose of sweet blackberries, red plums, roasted provençal herbs and macerated cherries. On the palate, this is a medium to full-bodied wine, with good structure, beautiful tannins and a clean finish.

  • Château Mont-Redon Lirac Rouge, Rhone
    Rhône, France
    70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre
Lirac is situated on the right bank of the Rhône River, west of Châteauneuf-du-Pape between the towns of Orange and Avignon. Château Mont-Redon's 35 hectares of vineyards are located on a plateau with soils of sand and pebbles, similar to nearby Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Summers are dry and hot with the warm Mistral winds keeping away any humidity. The grapes are selected and hand-harvested beginning in early September. Upon arrival at the winery, they are destemmed and macerated at cool temperatures for a period of two to three weeks. Punch down of the cap is frequent to ensure maximum color and extraction. With fermentation complete, approximately 1/3 of the wine is aged for a short period in small oak barrels with the remainder remaining in large vats. The wines are then blended and aged for an additional 18 months prior to bottling. Taste of red-cherry and blackberry notes are shaded by tones of anise and forest floor in this full-bodied, Grenachedominant red. Red-currant acidity lends crispness to the midpalate, accented by fine but drying, grippy tannins on the finish.

  • Closerie de Vaudieu Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Rhone
    Rhône, France
    71% Grenache/Garnacha , 29% Syrah/Shiraz
Situated northeast of the town, the vineyards surround those of Château Rayas. Spread over 70 hectares the soils vary greatly, from sand to quartz (galets) and clay/limestone outcrops. This diversity of soil and exposure adds complexity to the blend, with the fruit from the sandier soils lending aromatic elegance and that from the galets giving power and intensity. The vines are over 65 years in age and the fruit gains incredible levels of concentration as a result. Deep ruby red in color, with a black cherry core. This wine has lively berry fruits on the nose, with a touch of licorice and a hint of black pepper. On the palate, it is full-bodied and the ripe tannins gently support the cherry, cassis, and herb character on the finish.

    Rhône, France
    100% Syrah

As a result of healthy, properly ripened grapes, he makes deliciously juicy Syrah that is fresh, concentrated, and complex. The first thing you’ll notice about this Northern Rhone Syrah is the fruit – the distinct aroma of blueberries and plums along with violets. This is followed by creamy chocolate and spice. And this continues to the palate with the heady flavor of sweet, ripe plums, prunes and earth. The wine is very well balanced and structured. Integrated, with soft, silky tannin and very manageable acidity with reasonably low alcohol at 13% ABV
