  • Sassicaia 2017 Tenuta San Guido
    Tuscany, Italy
85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc
In 2017 Bolgheri was blessed by the third exceptional vintage on the trot, after the superb 2015-16. People are struggling to remember two such excellent consecutive vintages and it is fair to say that the release of the wines has been much anticipated. The critics have been lavish with their praise. 93/100 Wine Advocate Sassicaia is today one of the most sought after fine wines in the world. This is larely because of the vision, energy and drive o proprietor Mario Incisa della Rocchetta. The name Sassicaia means place of many stones and the gravelly soil has been compared to those found in the Medoc. "Mid-deep ruby-garnet. A notable nose ragrance with tobacco scent lifts out of the glass. Acore or ripe, sweet cassis fruit is wrapped in subtle clove oak spice, some earthy tones and cigar box. Needs only a little coaxing from the glass, whish is surprising, given its youth. Focussed, precise and elegant cassis on the palate with crushed rock and tobacco. Very fine, fairly firm tannins, with a line of acidity helping to give structure. Very long, delicate, scented finish." Tim Jackson, MW, jancisrobinson.com

  • Chateau Lynch Bages, Pauillac 2003
    Bordeaux, France
Cabernet Sauvignon 83%, Merlot 11%, Cabernet Franc 6%

Ch. Lynch Bages, a Cinquième Cru Classé, is one of the best-known Médoc estates and has always had a particularly strong following on this side of the English Channel. The wine can be surprisingly soft and approachable when young; however, when fully mature, it develops a succulent richness and a heavenly bouquet of minty blackcurrants and cigar boxes. As Oz Clarke says, “Lynch Bages is impressive at five years, beautiful at 10 years and irresistible at 20.”

The 2003 Lynch Bages has re-emphasised just how good the Left Bank wines are. Huge wafts of muscular, minty, cassis-laden Cabernet Sauvignon on the nose introduce a powerful structured palate with savoury hints of liquorice. It displays even more elegance than other vintages and looks likely to prove absolutely stunning with a bit of patience. Cellar Potential 2012-2030

  • Chapelle De Potensac 2016 Medoc
The 2016 Potensac is a blend of 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, cropped at 55 hectoliters per hectare between 5 and 19 October (11 days of picking), then matured in 30% new oak. Jean-Hubert Delon told me that his team was selective in the winery and so the Grand Vin only comprises 55% of the total production. It actually shares the potent marine/estuarine influence of the Chapelle de Potensac, plenty of black fruit here, maybe a little rustic but with plenty of character. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite linear at first, opening nicely in the mouth to reveal a spicy and lively middle and finish. This has a little more panache than the 2015 Potensac, more detail towards the finish, and it should give plenty of drinking pleasure over the next decade or more. Drink 2020 - 2035. • Chateau Les Tourelles De Longueville Paulliac 2015
    Bordeaux, France
91 points Vinous Outer quote mark The 2015 Les Tourelles de Longueville has much to offer. Bold, vibrant and impeccable in its balance, the 2015 is beautifully delineated and classy. Sweet red cherry, white pepper, leather and mint give the flavors a distinctly bright upper register of nuance. There is lovely brightness running through the Tourelles that keeps the flavors bright. The Tourelles is the chateau's Merlot-based red and is a bit of an outlier relative to the other wines in this range. (AG) Inner quote mark (2/2018) Decanter
