  • Chateau Musar, Musar Jeune Red, Bekaa Valley
    Bekaa Valley, Lebanon
Cinsault (50%), Syrah (35%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (15%)
Chateau Musar has become something of an icon wine over the last decades yet such is its price these days for mature vintages, this youngster gives everyone the opportunity to see what all the fuss is about before breaking the £20 barrier to invest in the real thing. It is made with the same care and affection but is like a watercolour painting to an oil. Both can be great art but one is more imposing than the other at times. Musar Jeune Red is a deep scarlet colour with a beguiling, smokey, black fruit nose, showing rich blackberry and mulberry notes tinged with spice. A good concentration of pure, black and red cherry fruit on the palate is supported by juicy, fresh acidity. With its soft tannins, it is balanced and long and best enjoyed in its youth.

Made from the fruit of Viognier, Vermentino, and Chardonnay vines planted since 2000 at around 1,000m above sea level in the Bekaa Valley. Musar Jeune White is fermented in cement-lined vats and released a year after the harvest. The vines used for Musar Jeune White are from our organically certified vineyards and come from 2 different terroirs; Chardonnay and Vermentino are grown on limestone soils, while the Viognier comes from vineyards with silty soils. The Musar Jeune White is a straw gold colour, on the nose; lemon, grilled pineapple, honey and butterscotch, while on the palate; tropical fruits are complemented by a hint of herbs and complex minerality. The wine provides a long finish with balanced acidity.

  • 2000 Chateau Musar, Bekaa Valley
    Bekaa Valley, Lebanon
    Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan, Cinsault
The colour is a deep dark red, perhaps darker than usual at Chateau Musar. The nose is a complex intriguing mixture of figs, prunes, leather, dark tea, tobacco, black olives and spices with a certain earthiness. On the palate you will find ripe black cherries, figs, damsons - even chocolate and olives. There is good acidity with nice smooth tannins resulting in a wine which is full bodied, rich and velvety with a very long finish.
