  • 2018 Benjamin Leroux Savigny-Les-Beaune
    Burgundy, France
    100%Pinot Noir
Screwcap. The lion's share of this vintage comes from the outstanding Aux Fournaux terroir in the north of the village. Then there's Les Peuillets (in the south) and Ez Connardises (in the heart of the village), to make up the traditional trio of parcels. While the latter plots were de-stemmed, the Aux Fournaux parcel was fermented with 80% whole-bunch (a rarity in Leroux Savigny). The entire cuvée saw next to no new oak. It's a remarkably deep and powerful wine in the context of Savigny, with blackcurrant, cocoa, and some red cherry too. The finish is bright with powdery tannins.

  • Du Grappin Saint-Amour, Beaujolais
    Beaujolais, France
    100% Gamay
From old vines in the lieu-dit of “La Grande Charrière”, a vineyard at the base of the slope, made up of old alluvial decomposed granite, schist, and clay. These soils yield wines with both high toned aromatic intensity and a firm core. Inspired by Jules Chauvet’s fermentation notes from 1972, the hand-picked clusters were placed in a vat for three weeks with no crushing, pumping, or plunging, the grapes undergoing what Chauvet called a fermentation aromatique. Pressed after 21 days, the wine finished fermentation in tank before nine months in 500L barrels. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. Bright fruited & juicy, with a vibrant, aromatic, floral nose. Medium weight in the mouth with smooth, fresh tannins with a zippy, long finish. Some spritz was left in the wine to protect it, so a decant or a shake is encouraged! Glou-glou!

  • Gustave Lorentz Riesling Reserve, Alsace
    Alsace, France
    100% Riesling
The grapes come from various hillside vineyards around the village of Bergheim, with a predominance of heavy clay/limestone soil. They are hand-picked, usually around mid-October, with the whole grapes pressed. The pressed juice is separated from the free-run juice and undergoes 12-to-24 hours of “debourbage” or settling, to eliminate impurities, which are then filtered out. Fermentation takes place, using a combination of natural and selected yeasts, in stainless steel vats. The wine goes through two rackings, the first to separate the lees from the wine and the second to clarify the wine. It sits in tanks for six months, with the potential to age for another seven to eight years. The Riesling Reserve has a yellow color, with an expressive nose filled with citrus and white flower aromas. It is lively, with a lot of ripe citrus fruits, great structure, and a clean, dry finish.

  • Jean-Claude Boisset Pinot Noir, Les Ursulines
    Burgundy, France
    100% Pinot Noir
The fruit for this wine comes from old vines, mostly from the Côte de Nuits, which ensures that the quality of the blend is far higher than that of a standard Bourgogne. The vineyard management here is stringent and uses specific techniques to control yields, guaranteeing a good concentration of flavours in the grapes. These techniques include de-budding, cluster thinning, little or no use of fertiliser and environmentally-friendly vine protection. Bright ruby red in color with pronounced aromas of wild strawberry and raspberry with hints of black pepper. On the palate, flavors of juicy red fruits and sweet spice are well-balanced with bright, lifted acidity and round, silky tannins. An excellent value Red Burgundy.

    100% Pinot Noir
Born and bred in Marsannay you’d think that Sylvain Pataille would have had wine in his veins. He is not from a winemaking family however, and went to wine school in Beaune from the age of 14. Vineyard holdings are managed according to organic and biodynamic principles and when replanting is necessary is is undertaken via massale selection with cuttings from some of the most outstanding producers in Burgundy.
