Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux offers up scents of blackcurrant cordial, wild thyme and fertile loam with hints of cedar chest, pencil lead and tar. • Toro Pintia 2014
    Castilla-Leon, Spain
Grapes Tempranillo. Region: Toro, Castilla y Leon, Spain. Producer Many consider Vega Sicilia to be one of Spain’s ‘First Growths;’ and responsible for the illustrious reputation of the Ribera Del Duero. It was founded in 1864 by Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves, who arrived from Bordeaux with cuttings of local grapes (Cab. Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec) and planted them, together with Spain's signature grape Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) in Ribera del Duero. Tasting Notes It has aromas of violets and delicate cedar, with a fresh, balanced, rounded palate displaying rich, dense notes of redcurrant and damson that run smoothly over the tongue. There's an edge of acidity and a finishing boom of warmth. A subtle change in the oak regime sees this in 90% new oak (rather than the traditional 100%), and 80% French and 20% American oak (a shift towards more French oak). Tasting Notes “This wine is clean, modern and balanced, with integrated oak and the classical berry flavors with a spicy twist. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with some grainy tannin and enough elegance to counterbalance the natural power. I would say it's a very successful 2015, a vintage that is over-delivering in many cases. It was bottled in May 2017. Luis Gutierrez, WA. • Ch. Ormes de Pez 2008
    Bordeaux, France
    Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot
Cab - Sauv Bourdeaux blend. The 2008 Ormes de Pez is one of the few successful wines from St Estèphe this vintage. With a lovely, enticing nose, it is full of the dense, dark fruit of the commune but with a creamy, raspberry twist to the finish. The tannins are so ripe they are almost powdery on the palate – incredible considering how linear and firm the majority of wines from this commune were – and at this price, it’s an absolute bargain.

  • Ovello Riserva 2014 - Barbaresco
    Piedmont, Italy
"Always one of my favorite wines from Produttori del Barbaresco, the 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello lays out a broad and soft mouthfeel, with tannins that have already been polished and integrated thanks to ample time in the bottle already. It's safe to say that this Ovello cru loyally demonstrates the level of richness and textural softness that this site is known for. The bouquet is redolent of bright berry fruit with cherry, blackberry and plum. Also, the 2014 vintage was a warm one at the end of the growing season, and you taste a little bit of that ripeness here too". Wine Advocate-Parker

  • Le Serre Nuove Dell` Ornellaia 2016
    Tuscany, Italy
Merlot, Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, Petit Verdot
44% Merlot, 26% Cab- Sauv, 18% Petit Verdot, 12% Cabernet Franc Made with the same passion and attention to detail as Ornellaia, Le Serre Nuove dell’ Ornellaia is a true "second vin". A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot, it combines approachability and a depth of flavor with proven aging potential. “Le Serre Nuove dell’ Ornellaia 2016 benefits again from an exceptional vintage that highlights all the features of Bolgheri’s exceptional climate. Dark in colour, the wine shows a charming nose of perfectly ripe red fruit and spices. The palate is rich and well-rounded with beautiful velvety-textured tannins that coat the palate. A wine that combines immediate pleasure and great aging capacity” Axel Heinz, winemaker – May 2018

  • Ornellaia La Volte Toscana, Tuscany Red
Ornellaia La Volte Toscana, Tuscany Red 'Few vintages have expressed all the virtues of the Tuscan coast’s climate as eloquently as 2017. An almost perfect combination of sunshine, warm summer days and cool nights, with just about enough rain to slow down the vine’s growth without making them suffer from drought have led to one of the purest expressions of Le Volte dell’Ornellaia, combining perfrectly ripe yet vibrant fruit with a silky and generous texture underlined by a fresh and lively acidity.’ Axel Heinz, Wine Maker 92 points, Wine Spectator 92 points, James Suckling

  • Chateau Cantenac Brown 2015 Margaux
The 2015 Cantenac Brown follows their excellent 2014 with another great Margaux. Here, a nuanced nose that does not come racing from the blocks, but keep your nose in the glass and it reveals detailed blackberry, cranberry and strawberry aromas that are neatly embroidered with the new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, quite tensile tannin. There is breeding interwoven into this Margaux, palpable sophistication, and it finishes with panache, fanning out with lightly spiced red and black fruit. It is not the most ostentatious Margaux in what is a fecund season for the appéllation, but I suspect it will surprise a few wine-lovers as its ages. • Chateau Les Tourelles De Longueville Paulliac 2015
    Bordeaux, France
91 points Vinous Outer quote mark The 2015 Les Tourelles de Longueville has much to offer. Bold, vibrant and impeccable in its balance, the 2015 is beautifully delineated and classy. Sweet red cherry, white pepper, leather and mint give the flavors a distinctly bright upper register of nuance. There is lovely brightness running through the Tourelles that keeps the flavors bright. The Tourelles is the chateau's Merlot-based red and is a bit of an outlier relative to the other wines in this range. (AG) Inner quote mark (2/2018) Decanter

  • Chateau Dame Gaffeliere 2015 Saint Emilion
    Staff Favourite
    Bordeaux, France
The second wine of this Premier Grand Cru Classé estate is very fine. With its rich tannins, generous acidity and black fruits, it is solid and dense while having such attractive fruitiness. The wine will age well, full of ripe fruit and with excellent concentration. Drink from 2021.

Chateau Dame Gaffeliere 2015 Saint Emilion

  • Chapelle De Potensac 2016 Medoc
The 2016 Potensac is a blend of 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, cropped at 55 hectoliters per hectare between 5 and 19 October (11 days of picking), then matured in 30% new oak. Jean-Hubert Delon told me that his team was selective in the winery and so the Grand Vin only comprises 55% of the total production. It actually shares the potent marine/estuarine influence of the Chapelle de Potensac, plenty of black fruit here, maybe a little rustic but with plenty of character. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite linear at first, opening nicely in the mouth to reveal a spicy and lively middle and finish. This has a little more panache than the 2015 Potensac, more detail towards the finish, and it should give plenty of drinking pleasure over the next decade or more. Drink 2020 - 2035. Score: 90/92 Parker Points

  • Chateau Kirwan 2017 Margaux
    Bordeaux, France
The 2017 Kirwan has a very opulent, heady bouquet that perhaps has its foot pressed down a little too hard on the accelerator? It just feels a little ostentatious compared directly with its peers. The palate goes some way to restore order with small dark cherries, taut and quite firm tannin with a very citrus-fresh finish. It is a Margaux that seems to be on full glare at the moment - I hope that during élevage the contrast is toned down, so that there is more balance and a sense of terroir can come through, because this estate can produce great wines. Drink 2019-2033. Score: 89/91 Parker Points

  • Flor de Pingus 2016 Ribera del Duero
    Ribera del Duero, Spain

Dominio de Pingus is a Spanish winery located in Quintanilla de Onésimo with vineyards in the La Horra area of the Ribera del Duero region. It was established in 1995 by Danish oenologist Peter Sisseck who believes in a system of never fertilising or treating the vineyard with pesticides.

“Explosively perfumed aromas of fresh boysenberry, floral oils and incense, with suave vanilla and woodsmoke nuances building in the glass. Sweet and plush on the palate, offering intense, smooth dark fruit liqueur and spicecake flavors. Really stains the palate, finishing with superb thrust and clarity; velvety tannins add gentle grip.”- Josh Raynolds

  • Ornellaia 2016 Bolgheri DOC Superiore
    Tuscany, Italy
51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot
In 2016 Bolgheri was blessed by the second exceptional vintage on the trot, after the superb 2015. People are struggling to remember two such excellent consecutive vintages and it is fair to say that the release of the wines has been much anticipated. The critics have been lavish with their praise. This fantastic wine has monumental depth with profound layers of black fruit, coffee, liquorice and baking chocolate. Glossy shine and a polished texture that segues to important richness, concentration and textural fibre. Wraps thickly over the palate, imparting waves of sweet dark fruit and dark spice that lingers for many long minutes. The Ornellaia vineyard totals 280 acres that are divided into more than 70 vineyard plots according to soil type, exposition and varietal. All the vineyards are about three miles from the Mediterranean shore. The mild maritime climate features sea breezes that keep the sky clear with low rainfall and long summers that favour the development of aromatic compounds. The clusters were hand-picked into 15 kg boxes and then selected by hand on a double sorting table, before and after destemming, and finally softly crushed. In 2016, optical sorting has been introduced in addition to manual selection, in order to further increase the quality of selection. Each grape variety and single vineyard block was vinified separately. Fermentation took place in stainless steel and concrete tanks at temperatures between 26-30°C for two weeks, followed by 10-15 days of maceration on the skins. The malolacticfermentation took place mainly in oak barrels, 70% new and 30% once-used. The wine then remained in barriques, in Ornellaia’s temperature- controlled cellars for about 20 months. After the first 12 months of maturation, the wine was assembled and then returned to the barriques for an additional 8 months. After bottling, the wine aged a further 12 months prior to release. Cellar Potential 2020-2040 “2016 represents another immensely successful vintage highlighting all the virtues of Bolgheri’s climate: abundant sunshine, without excessive heat, a dry summer to allow the grapes to achieve perfect ripeness and concentration, and just about enough rain to avoid stress. All these elements combine to yield a wine that shows lush ripeness and crisp firmness, opposing forces creating a sense of dense raciness we like to describe as “tension”.” Axel Heinz – Estate Director “A particularly dark and young colour is the prelude to a complex nose of black berries, spices and cedar. The palate is rich and dense, balanced by a refined and firm tannic structure, lifted by a juicy and bright acidity.” Olga Fusari – Winemaker – July 2018 Monica Larner scored the wine at 98 points and gave it this glowing review. “The 2016 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia is a wine of extreme complexity and precision. It offers monumental depth with profound layers of black fruit, coffee, licorice and baking chocolate. I tasted this 2016 vintage beside the less-impactful 2015 vintage (which was reviewed last year). These two editions are very different when compared side to side, and this 2016 release is clearly superior in terms of the quality, clarity and intensity of its offerings. This Ornellaia delivers glossy shine and a polished texture that segues to important richness, concentration and textural fiber. It wraps thickly over the palate, imparting waves of sweet dark fruit and dark spice that linger for many long minutes. This beautiful wine is hitting the market now, but collectors will want to put it straight into their cellars for safekeeping.” Bruce Sanderson scored it at 96 points and Mick O’Connell MW scored it at 97 points, writing this note. “Plush nose, cedar and cigar box spice. Merlot showing with plum and currants. Super finesse here, long and fine but very dense and compact - opulence and vibrancy simultaneously - gives nice tension and contrast. Excellent stuff.”

    Tuscany, Italy
85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc
In 2017 Bolgheri was blessed by the third exceptional vintage on the trot, after the superb 2015-16. People are struggling to remember two such excellent consecutive vintages and it is fair to say that the release of the wines has been much anticipated. The critics have been lavish with their praise. 93/100 Wine Advocate Sassicaia is today one of the most sought after fine wines in the world. This is larely because of the vision, energy and drive o proprietor Mario Incisa della Rocchetta. The name Sassicaia means place of many stones and the gravelly soil has been compared to those found in the Medoc. "Mid-deep ruby-garnet. A notable nose ragrance with tobacco scent lifts out of the glass. Acore or ripe, sweet cassis fruit is wrapped in subtle clove oak spice, some earthy tones and cigar box. Needs only a little coaxing from the glass, whish is surprising, given its youth. Focussed, precise and elegant cassis on the palate with crushed rock and tobacco. Very fine, fairly firm tannins, with a line of acidity helping to give structure. Very long, delicate, scented finish." Tim Jackson, MW, jancisrobinson.com
