The allure of Argentinian, and particularly Mendozan wines continues to grow in the Irish market. Argentina has always been a source of excellent wines but it's in the last 20 years that the public perception has risen to meet the quality and capabilities of the countries wineries. We're proud to have a wide range of Argentinian wines in the shop that reflect the diversity and quality of the region.

One of the key wineries in this movement to bring top quality Argentinian wines to the world has been Bodegas Salentein. Founded in 1996 by the pioneering Myndert Son, the winery now controls over 2000 Hectares with 800 under vine. The current winemaker José Galante is a true master, having overseen more than 40 vintages and considered the father of modern winemaking in Argentina.

The Spectacular Cellar

Salentein Reserve Malbec

Bodegas Salentein has been a true Pioneer in Valle de Uco, which has become one of the most prestigious wine regions in Mendoza. Salentein firmly believe this region is the future for Argentine wine. Its high elevation and different stony alluvial soils create the perfect conditions for world class wines. For twenty years Salentein has led the way in the Uco Valley, with a unique combination of estates in the most recognised sub-regions within the area. It's the tireless pursuit of quality from wineries such as Salentein that have led to the wines of Mendoza, and Valle de Uco in particular gaining so much praise. The winery itself is equipped with the latest technology and high quality equipment.

Of course all this means nothing if the wines aren't spectacular, thankfully Salentein produces some of the best Argentinian Malbec that we've ever tasted in the shop! The Salentein Barrel Selection Malbec was recently named the Sunday Times and Business Post 'wine of the week', and is in the top 1% of wines globally on Vivino with a score of 4.1.

Naturally their portfolio doesn't stop at Malbec and they produce a range of red and white varieties that highlight the flexibity of the region when it comes to growing quality grapes. We've highlighted some of our Favourite bottles below:

Portillo wines take their name from the historic mountain pass linking the Andes to the Valle de Uco. A crossing used by General San Martin in his Liberation quest and by scientist Charles Darwin. Nowadays, Portillo is also the gateway to the fascinating wines of Bodegas Salentein.
