“A very special wine in the making.” - Antonio Galloni
There are pygmies in the Congo basin, who will roll their eyes, yawn, and turn in for the night if you tell them about the 2016 vintage in Tuscany. It’s the worst-kept secret in wine, but it’s worth repeating one more time because the elements rarely align so perfectly. Felsina have fashioned a tremendous, age-worthy Sangiovese with the release of their Fontalloro 2016, a wine packed with hedonistic fruit and a structure to last for 20-30 years.
Fontalloro is the most representative expression of Fèlsina’s Sangiovese. Fontalloro grapes come from vineyards straddling the border between Chianti Classico and the Chianti Colli Senesi denomination.
Aromas of dark-skinned fruit, exotic spice, blue flower, and menthol shape the nose. It's linear, focused, ethereally elegant, offering succulent Morello cherry, raspberry compote, and star anise alongside fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity lends balance.
