Bodegas Ponce, 'Depaula' Monastrell, 2012

This delicious red from the Jumilla region is organically and biodynamically grown. 100% Monastrell, it shows the purity and freshness of this Mediterranean varietal, and is not a wine that is too high in alcohol or heavy. Aged in French oak barrels for seven months, it is an easy drinking wine with lots of fruit on the nose with hints of undergrowth. Solid character and depth. It will continue to evolve in the bottle over the next three years.

Press Quote "The 2012 Depaula carries the name of his young daughter and is produced from 43-year-old Monastrell vines from Ontur (Albacete) in one of the highest parts of the Jumilla appellation, in search of a fine and easy to drink wine. It is fermented with wild yeasts and aged for six months in 600-liter used French barrels. I believe he has achieved his objective; the wine is fresh, round, full of character, profound, a little demanding, subtle. You need to pay more attention, but at the same time it’s easy to drink and understand. Pure sweet fruit, round, fresh, persistent, pleasurable, serious and subtle, elegant and approachable. Velvety and supple. 8,100 bottles produced At this price, this wine is a steal. Drink 2013–2015." 91 pts, Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate: October, 2013.
