  • Midleton Very Rare 2013

    Midleton, co. Cork.

One of the rarest of all the Midletons, 2013 marked the end of an era that spanned 37 yers being Master Distiller Barry Crocket's last production of Midleton.

This rare 75cl bottle was destined for the US market but is now back where it belongs. Cane sugar that can be attributed to the influence of the well aged grain whiskey component. Followed by the pot still spices of vanilla and oak char. Within the combination you find dairy fudge, milk chocolate and green apples. Soft and mellow with a satisfying balance of confectionary sweetness through soft rip fruit to the more robust pot still spices.

The charred oak and barley grains contribute to the wonderful complexity. The succulent mellow flavours remain in balance and are slow to fade.

  • Old Carrick Mill Gin
    Ireland
This Gin hails from the town of Carrickmaccross in Co. Monaghan. There is an old saying from the area which goes ‘ from Carrickmacross to Crossmaglen, there are more rogues than honest men.’ It stems from an incident where a young man was up before the local Magistrate for being drunk . When questioned, the man man claimed that someone had slipped some whiskey into his tea, to which the Judge replied ‘from Carrickmacross to Crossmaglen, there are more rogues than honest men.’ Patrick Kavanagh immortalised the saying in a later poem. This Gin is named after the incident and poem from Kavanagh, who was from Inniskeen, Co. Monaghan. Creamy and smooth in the mouth with flavours of green herbs, juniper, citrus peel, spice and pear tart. The quality of the ingredients and base spirit shines through creating a gin that is pleasant to drink even without mixing.

  • Jawbox Dry Gin
The brainchild of Belfast-barman, Gerry White, Jawbox is a small batch gin named after the ever-celebrated Belfast sink colloquially known as the ‘Jawbox’. This classic dry gin is an ode to a time when the front door was left unlocked and the scullery was home to the heart of the kitchen, the big sink, where the craic was heard and unforgettable stories were shared. Inspired by the magnificent industrial era of Northern Irish history when ordinary men and women put Belfast on the map for hard graft and craft, Jawbox is a modern expression of this traditional, impressive and uncompromising character. The Ards Peninsula is home to The Jawbox Distillery and the fields where its grain is grown and harvested. It's here where things are done the hard way, for the right reasons. First, the grain is distilled slowly in a tradition copper pot still, a careful selection of local and exotic botanicals are then steeped overnight in the warmed spirit, releasing their maximum influence and preserving their delicate flavours and aromas. On the nose, Jawbox is an impressive experience of bold juniper and pine, balanced with a gentle touch of sweet coriander and clean citrus.
