  • 2012 Vosne-Romanée, 1er Cru Domaine Alain Burguet
    Burgundy, France
    100% Pinot Noir

Alain Burguet’s sons now have their own names on the label. The style at this excellent domaine has been evolving in recent years, away from firmly extracted wines towards a lighter touch. The vineyards are organic (without certification) and biodynamic from 2012, and they are trying out different barrel makers now.

Made from purchased grapes in one of Vosne- Romanée’s higher vineyards. Fine, bright purple, while the nose is quite reticent. On the palate there is impressive intensity, with piercing redcurrant fruit notes and good oak balance.

  • Ornellaia 2014 Bolgheri DOC Superiore
    Tuscany, Italy
34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 20% Petit Verdot, 14% Cabernet Franc

2014 was one of the longest and most delayed harvest at Ornellaia, with the first Merlot harvested the 6th of September, and a large part of the historical vineyards – including some Merlot – harvested in October. The 2014 harvest, that ended on the 22nd of October, was the latest ever.

The clusters were hand-picked into 15-kg boxes and then selected by hand on a double sorting table, before and after destemming, and finally softly crushed. Each grape variety and single vineyard block was vinified separately. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at temperatures between 26-30°C for two week, followed by 10-15 days of maceration on the skins. The malolactic fermentation took place mainly in oak barrels, 70% new and 30% once-used. The wine then remained in barriques, in Ornellaia’s temperature-controlled cellars for about 18 months. After the first 12 months of maturation, the wine was assembled and then returned to the barriques for an additional 6 months. After bottling, the wine aged a further 12 months prior to release.

“2014 was one of the most demanding years in memory of, and has allowed us to produce high quality wines that are offering great delight. The late ripening of the grapes allowed the fruit to fully express its liveliness and freshness. What is particularly striking is the high quality of the tannins on the palate: silky, refined, without rough edges. This year represents the heart of the estate, Ornellaia’s ‘Essence’: its natural style, the exceptional quality of its terroir, and the competence of those who work in the vineyards and the cellar.”

  • Flor de Pingus 2014 Ribera del Duero
    Ribera del Duero, Spain
    Tempranillo

Dominio de Pingus is a Spanish winery located in Quintanilla de Onésimo with vineyards in the La Horra area of the Ribera del Duero region. It was established in 1995 by Danish oenologist Peter Sisseck who believes in a system of never fertilising or treating the vineyard with pesticides.

“Explosively perfumed aromas of fresh boysenberry, floral oils and incense, with suave vanilla and woodsmoke nuances building in the glass. Sweet and plush on the palate, offering intense, smooth dark fruit liqueur and spicecake flavors. Really stains the palate, finishing with superb thrust and clarity; velvety tannins add gentle grip.”- Josh Raynolds

  • Gerard Duplessis Chablis Grand Cru 2015 Les Clos
    Burgundy, France
    Chardonnay
"The 2015 Chablis Grand Cru les Clos comes from a single 0.30 hectare parcel located in the center of the slope. The vines were planted in 1964 and 1965. It offers quite a rich bouquet with scents of dried honey, acacia, linseed and a touch of pressed white flowers, all well defined. The palate is crisp and taut on the entry with a fine bead of acidity, waxy in texture with a slightly resinous last third that seems to be closing down. Cellar this away for two to four years to get the most from this grand cru. Drink: 2020-2035"
